FAQs

What is the Old School Outing?

A golf tournament where everyone plays with clubs made pre-1975. You have to find them (grandparents, craigslist, ebay, pawn shops, etc). I found mine at a yard sale in Bonnie Brae. My dad grabbed his dad’s set — Northwestern’s Bruce Crampton irons built in the 1940s.

When and Where is it?

This year the outing will be held at the historic Overland Golf Club on Friday August 21, 2009.

Who Many People Play?

Last year 12 people played in the outing and nearly 45 showed up to the Garden Party.  This year we have more tee times since it’s open to the public.

What is this Group?

We created the “Honorable Society of Denver Golfers” to honor and carry on the history of the game of golf.  It doesn’t cost anything to join, just your participation in the annual outing.

Why a Golfing Society?

The goal is to create a society or community of golfers committed to playing with old sticks and eventually create events with other golf clubs where they play us and everyone plays with clubs pre-1975.

What’s the Format? What if I’m a Huge Hacker?

Everyone is invited. The first two outings have been  a stroke play format but that should not prevent anyone from coming out and enjoying a good round with dated technology.

Any rules?

Yes, all clubs must be made pre-1975. No carts**

** people over the age of 70 can use a cart if they have a doctors note :-)

Who’s Invited?

Friends of friends of friends are invited. All ages too.  Its about bringing together those that love the game.

What’s this Garden Party?

After golf there is a Garden Party for all players and their family and friends.  This year Overland is going to host the Garden Party.  Pimms and Lemonade, fish and chips and other food will be served.
